In her famous interior design manual,&nbsp;<em>The House in Good Taste,&nbsp;<\/em>she<em>&nbsp;<\/em>articulated her design maxim: &#8220;Simplicity, suitability, and proportion.&#8221; Her work at The Colony Club, a New York City women&#8217;s club, featured her touchstones: indoor latticework, Neoclassical elements, French antiques, and an immaculate sense of proportion. Her iconic style\u2014&#8221;le style&nbsp;<em>Castaing&#8221;<\/em>\u2014remains a decorating reference. Draper hallmarks include black-and-white checkered floors, saturated colors, baroque plaster work, and overscaled florals. He attracted attention in the 1960s when he convinced his mother to let him redecorate her home and publish the project. TONY DUQUETTE (1914-1999)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"share-tab-img share-buttons share-trigger\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-451\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theinside.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/8_tony_duquette_1914_1999.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"980\" height=\"668\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"share-media-panel\">Duquette&#8217;s Los Angeles house &#8220;Dawnridge&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tony Duquette was a renaissance man. As an interior designer, set decorator, and sculptor, Duquette&#8217;s unique vision brought him much fame throughout the 20th century. The king of maximalism, Duquette fabulously illustrated that more is more. The offices of Tony Duquette Studios are still in business and operate out of his famed Los Angeles home, Dawnridge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"rebelltitem8\" class=\"rebellt-item col1\" data-basename=\"9-albert-hadley-1920-2012\" data-href=\"https:\/\/beyondthebeige.theinside.com\/a-dozen-iconic-interior-designers-2626104026.html?rebelltitem=8#rebelltitem8\" data-id=\"8\" data-is-image=\"True\" data-reload-ads=\"false\">\n<h3>9. ALBERT HADLEY&nbsp; (1920-2012)<\/h3>\n<div class=\"share-tab-img share-buttons share-trigger\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.theinside.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/9_albert_hadley_1920_2012-811x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"811\" height=\"1024\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"share-media-panel\">Born in Springfield, Tennessee, Albert Livingston Hadley Jr. attended Peabody College in Nashville and Parsons School of Design. He began his career working for Sister Parish, and ultimately he took over the firm. Like Parish, Hadley mastered pattern mixing. He founded the Memphis Group, a 1980s Italian design studio that challenged the tenets of modernism and laid the foundation for the postmodern design movement. Though his work remains polarizing, his mark on 20th century design is undeniable.
