When looking for a fresh perspective on how to approach pairing our new Scalamandré fabrics with modern staples from our assortment, we turned to one of our collaborators at the iconic fabric house. Sumitra Mattai has served as the Senior Design Director at Scalamandré for a year. Take a look at how this RISD grad styles florals and checks in a way that feels original and current.
“Lanai is a personal favorite of mine. We found it in the Scalamandré archives and fell in love with its tropical vibe. Lapis Lanai is a unique coloration with its rich blue ground, coral flowers, and accents of aqua and lavender. Grey Ticking Stripe By SF Girl By Bay brings out the purply grey in the vines, and Coral Velvet layers beautifully with the tones in the flower.”
“Grey Aviary offers a great mix of warm and cool tones. Anni By Christene Barberich picks up on the gold tones, and Garden In Ink By The Everygirl adds an eclectic flair to the mix. Grey Linen gives the scheme depth and contrast.”
“A multi-color print [offers] a great opportunity to layer patterns and textures of different scales. The happy hue of Green Hopscotch by Clare V. brings out the leafy shades in Mandarin Lanai, and the small scale pattern complements the large-scale floral. Husk Linen adds texture and visual relief to this vibrant scheme.”
FRENCH COUNTRY CLASSIC
“For a classic ‘provençal’ look, [try mixing] Blue Aviary with French Blue Check, Port Clarence Stripe, and Bordeaux Linen.”
…WITH A TWIST
“Red Blocks By Christene Barberich adds a contemporary twist and a splash of red to this classic blue and white story.”
